Proposed 2008/2009 Sewerage Charges - 17 Jun 2008
The State Government is requiring Councils to introduce user charges in place of ad valorem rating as part of Best Practice Pricing.  For Non Residential properties this means that as from 2008/09 the calculation for sewerage charges will be on the basis of water discharged into the sewerage system.

Each Non Residential property has been assessed and allocated a Sewerage Discharge Factor (SDF) - the higher the SDF, the higher the volume of water deemed to be discharged into the Sewerage system.  The calculation of the charge will be:

Water Consumption x SDF x Usage Charge more ..

Cold weather drives numbers down but quality up at Murrumbidgee Farm Fair - 22 May 2008

The Murrumbidgee Farm Fair was held at the Yanco Agricultural Institute for the 20th year last week and attracted more than 160 exhibitors with around 5,000 visitors attending the 2008 event.

Although extreme cold conditions dramatically reduced numbers through the gate, organisers are still calling the annual event a major success.

Barry Harley, General Manager of Rural Press Events, organisers of the Fair, said that numbers were significantly less than what was expected but the quality of the visitors was incredibly high.

“We measure the event’s success not by the number of visitors through the gate, but how well the exhibitors go in reaching their marketing expectations”, he said.  “Most of the agricultural exhibitors did very well with a very high genuine enquiry level experienced and some reporting significant sales direct from the site.”

“Clearly, when the drought finally breaks in this region, follow-up sales will be astronomical and many of the serious exhibitors know that they must market in the dry times to reap the benefits in the good times,” Mr Harley added.  “We had good sales reports across the board including machinery dealers, motor vehicles, tanks, seed handling and storage, pumps, motors and tools.”

This is the second year that Rural Press Events have managed the Murrumbidgee Farm Fair for Leeton Shire Council with a commitment to continue the direction of the event to that of a genuine agricultural field day displaying the latest in products and services to the farming family.

“Seasonal conditions are the worst in nearly 100 years,” he said, “and although we have already attracted a number of new agricultural companies, we can’t expect too much growth in the number of rural exhibitors until we get a break, but the interest in participating has been very high. This region is one of the most important growing regions in Australia and as such deserves a major primary industry event.

“We have some exciting developments in store for the event, developments that, when the seasons improve, will guarantee the future of Murrumbidgee Farm Fair and attract national recognition.”

Dates for 2009 have not been set at this stage as timing of the event could be altered slightly to better capture the best result for exhibitors, Mr Harley said.
