Proposed 2008/2009 Sewerage Charges

The State Government is requiring Councils to introduce user charges in place of ad valorem rating as part of Best Practice Pricing.  For Non Residential properties this means that as from 2008/09 the calculation for sewerage charges will be on the basis of water discharged into the sewerage system.

Each Non Residential property has been assessed and allocated a Sewerage Discharge Factor (SDF) - the higher the SDF, the higher the volume of water deemed to be discharged into the Sewerage system.  The calculation of the charge will be:

Water Consumption x SDF x Usage Charge

The usage charge is proposed to be 66 cents per kilolitre with a minimum charge equivalent to the Residential charge of $414.00

The maximum level of increase for Non Residential properties is proposed to be an amount not greater than 75% above the amount of Sewerage rates paid in 2007/08.

Accounts for the Sewerage charge will be issued at the same time as water accounts are issued - ie November, February and June.

Council will be writing to each affected property owner in July 2008 detailing the likely impact of the new charging structure.
